The $5 million Poland Efficient Lighting Project (PELP), funded by the International Finance Corporation and the Global Environmental Facility, has transformed Poland’s market by subsidizing producers to reduce the price of compact fluorescent light bulbs from the beginning of the distribution chain. This project has dramatically increased the availability and selection of these bulbs, reducing the retail price by 34% in real terms, with the growth of penetration of the bulbs from 11.5% of the households to 33.2% per year after an initiative and the total energy savings 435.8 GWh.
