Posted by Natalie Prokopchuk and Tobias Eisenring, European section of the Organic World. Several international donors support the organic sector in Ukraine, including the Swiss State Secretariat of Economic Affairs SECO and the Swiss Agency for Development and
Cooperation (SDC). To promote knowledge transfer and awareness, donors mentioned above organise trainings, seminars, conferences, round
tables and more. The organic sector in Ukraine is
furthermore supported by various international donors from Canada
(CIDA), Germany (GTZ) and Netherlands (Ministry of Agriculture and
Environment). Multinational donors such as the United Nations
Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Finance Cooperation
(IFC) announce their interest to support organic production in the
country.

movement is represented by numerous stakeholders: the only Ukrainian
certification body Organic Standard, the association of organic
production stakeholders BIOLan Ukraine, the Organic Federation of Ukraine, the association of producers of organic products Pure Flora,
the textile supplier Organic Era Trade House, the information center
Green Dossier as well as other organisations.
Organic producers,
processors, traders and shops play an important role in pushing forward
organic market growth in Ukraine. The majority of organic stakeholders
actively participate in the working group on the organic law draft of
the Ministry of Agricultural Policy of Ukraine.

The first organic honey in Ukraine is produced by the Druzhba private agricultural company, the member of the EthnoProduct group. The
bee-garden of the Druzhba company was certified as organic according to
the European standards by the Swiss institute for Ecological Marketing,
IMO, in May 2010.

The first
organic cow milk produced in Ukraine
and certified according to European standards has arrived onto the shelves of
Kyiv’s shops in November 2010. This organic milk
is produced by the EthnoProduct Corporation (member
of the EthnoProduct Organic Agriculture Group)
based in Yasenivka, Chernihiv region.
Organic milk is nominated by the Green Awards Ukraine as the Best Green Product 2011.

EthnoProduct
is the first and the largest Ukrainian supplier of organic meat and organic dairy products. Combining some agricultural companies, EthnoProduct adheres to
the organic standards and principles, promoting organic lifestyle.
With 8,000 ha of land and 2,000 cows, the Ethnoproduct is organically
certificated in 2010 by Swiss IMO and is expanding further.

Green Awards Ukraine is the contest where the jury is
presented by the leading experts in the field of environmental practices of the European level, public opinion leaders and representatives of
influential international organizations and institutions. The judges evaluate
the projects in two phases selecting the best one by interactive voting and
according to the results of public defense of the
projects.
The purpose of Green Awards Ukraine is to identify the best business and social
"green" projects in Ukraine.

Posted by KyivWeekly, 26 December 2011The long-awaited annual ecological event, Green Awards Ukraine, honoring the best green business and social projects in Ukraine took
place in Kyiv Golf Center on December 15. Projects, which successfully
passed the first stage of the competition, Green Trends, were
presented to the public during the first half of the day. 44 projects
were selected to compete for the title of the best project on the final
stage of the contest, their authors received an opportunity to present
their achievements in person. Over 200 guests, among whom there were
contestants, panel of judges and guests attracted by unparalleled nature
of the event, gathered later that night after the votes were counted.
The ceremony was an impressive celebration for the environmentally aware
people. The Green Awards Ukraine 2011 nominees included some of the TOP
100 companies, small and medium busineses that are
working on promising green projects in Ukraine.
